Jalyn Willis, known on stages and in studios across the country as J4, is a professional hip hop and freestyle dancer, choreographer, and dance educator based in Chicago, IL. The youngest of four daughters (all with names starting with J), she earned her stage name as a badge of both birth order and legacy. At 7 years old, she told her mom she wanted to dance background for Lady Gaga. By 9, she was already on stage as a dancer on the Bad Entertainment Dance team, performing in front of live audiences and falling deeper in love with the art.
What makes Jalyn's story extraordinary: she is entirely self-taught. No formal training, no studio childhood, just an innate, unshakeable connection to movement, music, and the art of freestyle. That raw foundation carried her to a Tremaine National Freestyler of the Year title at just 14 years old, in her very first freestyle competition. It's the same fire she brings to every stage, studio, and screen, from a Nike ad to World of Dance.
As founder of Jalyn Dances, she has conducted in-person and virtual hip hop lessons for individuals and groups, guest taught at studios across the Tri-State area, and conceptualized and produced workshops at universities and studios from Indiana to New York City. Her classes and workshops are a space where dancers are challenged, pushed to grow, and guaranteed to have a good time. Jalyn doesn't just perform; she builds culture.
From intimate showcases to large-stage productions, Jalyn's freestyle-rooted style commands every space she steps into. A national freestyle champion, her performances are raw, intentional, and unforgettable.
Jalyn creates original choreography for artists, groups, events, and productions — blending hip hop's cultural roots with her own signature movement vocabulary.
